New Motivations and Opportunities – Understanding the Amateur Producer [2009]

Another kind of digital revolution is taking hold and it owes more to social than technological capital.

SPEAKER: Clay Shirky (US) Writer, Consultant & Professor, NYU

As traditional media outlets get more focused on the bottom line, the world’s amateur producers are increasingly creating material for public consumption. Viewed from a traditional vantage point, this behavior looks inexplicable why would they work for free. Behaviors, though, are nothing more than motivations filtered through opportuni- ties; to understand the amateurs, you have to understand both their motivations to participate and the new opportunities they have in today’s media landscape.

Tracking the Internet into the 21st Century [2009]

40 years ago, Vint Cerf co-designed the first Internet. Now he is finding ways for it to last beyond the 21st Century.

SPEAKER: Vint Cerf (US) Vice President & Chief Internet Evangelist, Google

IDNs, TCP/IP, IPv6. The history of the Internet is full of obscurely entitled entities. Vint Cerf has been involved in many major technical Internet developments and is perhaps the man who knows best what goes on beyond our modems. However, he is not resting on his laurels: The Internet needs a serious revision if it is to support our exploding need for capacity and functionality. Do not miss this historic keynote presentation and an enlightening glimpse into the future of the Internet.

The Obama Moment – How New Media Changed Politics

In less than a month the next president of the USA will be elected. This session will take you behind the scenes of Barack Obama’s New Media-driven presidential campaign.

SPEAKER: Peter Leyden (US), head of Next Agenda Project
MODERATOR: Martin Krasnik (DK), journalist, Weekendavisen

Peter Leyden believes that Barack Obama’s political campaign has lead to the birth of a new kind of politics. He understands this change as a series of paradigm shifts in fund-raising – from the wealthy few to the middle class many, shifts in organizational models – from top-down to bottom-up, and shifts in the use of media – from old broadcast media to new social media. Hear Peter Leyden explain what is happening from his unique vantage point that provides understanding of both technology and politics.
